Through our various public and government engagements, CMBB continues to contribute to the Malaysian economy while combating illicit beer. Beer was invented in Mesopotamia approximately 6000 years ago, in an era where beer was preferred to water. Beer has brought people together and its industry has committed to brewing for a better future by protecting our planet and growing with communities.

POLICY AND CHALLENGES
Malaysia’s excise rate on beer is the second highest in the world, alongside Singapore and behind Norway, despite both countries having much greater purchasing power than Malaysia. In 2016, Norway’s household income per capita was more than 9 times greater than Malaysia’s.
